Q: What is the iNanoComm Program?
A: The Integrated Nanotube Commercialization Awards, or iNanoComm, is the largest materials award program single wall carbon nanotube research. It is a 1 metric ton (1,000 kg) matching award fund for research and applications using single wall carbon nanotubes. iNanoComm is the principal method for researchers and startups to co-finance their most interesting and innovative R&D projects dedicated to SWCNT applications. The Award program is sponsored by OCSiAl, the largest producer of single wall carbon nanotubes in the world.
Q: What benefits does it offer my research institution?
A: iNanoComm Award Winners – both academic researchers and startups – receive access to high quality single wall carbon nanotubes at a cost reduction of over 95%* compared to procurement from other sources. Follow-on commercial and later stage projects resulting from your research will benefit from hands-on experience with TUBALL™, the highest volume single wall carbon nanotube product.

Q: Is there a downloadable iNanoComm program I can share with colleagues?
A: Yes, you can download the brochure here: iNanoComm program (PDF / 1MB). Sharing the iNanoComm program with your colleagues will promote carbon nanotube research efforts and help lower the cost of CNT-based research.
Q: Who is eligible?
A: Academic researchers and startups are eligible for the Awards.
Researchers have access to the awards for both fundamental and industrial research projects at universities, colleges and national research labs.
Startups include any early stage application based on university research, including technology transfers, licensing and university spin-offs.
There are no restrictions on fields of application, and all researchers or startups working with or looking to work with carbon nanotubes are encouraged to apply. Research projects for commercialization applications, including fee for service and joint development work, are also highly supported.
Q: How are applications evaluated to win Matching Awards?
A: Applications will be evaluated based on their advancement of the following key areas: Technical Merit, Commercial Merit, and Potential for Breakthrough Global Impact in Commercializing and Advancing Nanotechnology.
Due to the nature of carbon nanotube applications, the majority of projects are eligible for matching awards and free material samples. Researchers and startups are encouraged to apply regardless of the scope of their application.

Q: What is TUBALL™?
A: TUBALL™ is the first mass-produced single wall carbon nanotube (SWCNT) product. SWCNT are poised to improve existing and future materials technology in a number of significant ways by simultaneously enhancing the strength, electrical and/or thermal conductivity of most materials. These benefits allow for improvements to current materials as well as create opportunities to design new composite materials with previously unseen combinations of capabilities.

Q: Have the specifications been certified?
A: Intertek has certified the as-produced material and you can download the TUBALL™ Certificate of Analysis by Intertek.
Q: How much material is available?
A: The entire Award fund has been allocated up to 1 metric ton (1,000 kg) for research and applications through iNanoComm Matching Awards. A maximum of 50 kilograms is available to each research institution or startup.
Q: Are free samples available?
A: Yes, free 1 gram samples are available to all researchers and 5 grams are available to researchers working on commercialization applications. For comparison, at typical industry prices between $250 and $1,000 per gram, this represents an effective materials benefit of up to $3,125. In contrast, materials procured through iNanoComm Matching Awards have costs starting at $4.35 per gram. Visit the Sample Request page to learn more.
Q: What does Matching Award mean?
A: The primary benefit is that Award winners receive a matching amount of material based on the amount purchased. For example, if a project requires 500 grams, only 250 grams would be purchased while an iNanoComm grant matches this to provide the additional 250 grams at no cost.
Q: How do I quickly calculate pricing to my project or application?
A: You can use the project cost calculator on the Matching Award page for a simple cost projection. The calculator provides both the overall cost and the price per gram for a given material volume.
Q: Will you mention my project in the press?
A: Award recipient institutions and companies are announced in phases throughout the year, unless you request otherwise. Research is mentioned in general terms and the name of your company or research institution may be used for promotional and reporting activities.
